Appias Nero in a few words
This butterfly is one of the Pieridae. This family includes specimens that are generally medium-sized, with white, yellow or orange shades and are often marked with small dark spots. The family comprises more than 1,000 species, including Pieris brassicae, commonly known as the ""Cabbage White"", which can be observed in French gardens and meadows in spring.
The females are more inconspicuous; they are mostly seen twirling around in the treetops, while males are more frequently seen near rivers and waterholes. Mating causes them to lose many minerals that they must regenerate by filtering water from wet rocks or sand banks. The caterpillars of Appias Nero feed on Capparis, a shrub of which the European variety is cultivated for its flower buds, which are eaten as capers.
This butterfly, which is widespread in Southeast Asia, is a national symbol in some countries, and is found for example on Malaysian, Philippine and Vietnamese stamps.
Where does Appias Nero live?
Appias Nero can be found in South East Asia, from India to Indonesia.
As our pieces use real butterflies, the dimensions mentioned can only be indicative, although we select butterflies as close as possible to these dimensions.
