Situated on the Huangpu river, near the mouth of the Yangzi Jiang in eastern China, Shanghai is the country’s most populous city and is home to more than 24 million inhabitants. It has the world’s biggest metro network, with 576 km of track, 14 lines and 337 stations. Shanghai also boasts China’s highest life expectancy—its residents live an average of 81.3 years. The futuristic “Maglev” train that connects Pudong Airport to the city’s historic centre, “Puxi”, cruises at a speed of 431 km/h, steered only by magnetic force. From the Bund, a boulevard situated on the riverbank, you can see the financial district of Pudong on the other side, with its futuristic towers like the Pearl of the Orient, Jintao Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower, China’s tallest skyscraper.
