since its opening kapok hong kong has taken pride over a strong emphasis in advocating to small creators and innovators in the creative industries, from local designers to artists that highlight the multitude of perspectives of the city that nurtures such works. from april 10 to may 30, kapok pmq presents a new pop-up, highlighting the best and brightest from hong kong. kapok pmq’s ‘crafted in hong kong’ seeks to support kapok’s initiative to support homegrown artists in creating the best selection of souvenirs for tourists.

hong kong-based designer zoe siu is a celebrated artist in sculptural art installations and rope work. having linked her passion with her intricate architectural possibilities of rope work through her collaboration with usa fashion icon iris apfel, where siu’s exclusive designs of accessories led to her solo exhibition at the hong kong landmark in 2017. upon her fame and success in the creative industry, siu pushes boundaries fusing the possibilities of rope through installations that transform retail and gallery spaces. siu has also run workshops for International brands such as omega, loro piana, mikimoto, 45r, and marimekko; with numerous ambassadorship for hong kong at International exhibitions in the likes of london craft week 2017m, autor jewellery fair 2017 in romania, and athens jewellery week 2019 in greece. in 2011, zoe siu founded Zoee, her accessories label where she continuously inspires many through collections of intricate rope designs weaved into jewellery pieces that double as wearable art pieces, as featured in this spring’s crafted In hong kong popup at kapok pmq.

interior designer-turned artist mag lai realised the potential of epoxy resin and created a collection of resin art through magentaMag, her product line under her own design firm cozydesign. celebrating the glorious colonial past of hong kong, its culture a fusion of East and West, the porcelain collections by Faux highlights the quintessence of such harmonious blend of chinese and british artistry through porcelain works. Faux’s willow pattern mirrors the artistry and designs that date back to the 19th century, popular throughout britain and many parts of europe. the willow design often depicts traditional romantic scenes and artistic motifs often seen in vintage classic dinnerware from egg cups to soup tureens and a wide range of crockery. the ‘crafted in hong kong’ pop-up brings the willow pattern by Faux, a first in a series of exquisite ceramic designs depicting scenes from views of hong kong island, as seen by artist mariko jesse through chinese inspired landscapes in a modern topographical design. the most recognised patterns of the nature wonders from the peak to central, along the victoria harbour lines towards wanchai and causeway bay, bring strong reminders of the glorious views of hong kong. with hong kong island and kowloon the first in a series, Faux is set to launch follow-up designs with stanley, repulse bay, and sai kung to complete the hong kong series, adding an artistic interpretation and appreciation to the city that inspires us. the hong kong and kowloon willow pattern collection covers dinnerware sets in red and blue colour, ranges from tea towel, sugar bowls, mugs, to noodle bowls and dinner plates.
